Can i use plumbers putty on corian

You can use this putty on any number of plumbing fixtures including basin cocks, bowls, sink faucets, sink frames, bowls, plugs and strainers. Sta Put contains oil in their mixture which can leach out and stain these materials! Stain-free plumbers putty is the only putty that I use when working with natural materials. It is manufactured by the same company as Sta put but with a very specific application.

Since there is no oil, it cannot leach out and stain the material. Hence the name; Stain-free. Just like Stay put, this is a dependable, robust product. It will provide a watertight seal every time. For the majority of plumbing projects Sta Put is a perfectly decent putty to use. Sta Put Ultra was created for applications where stainless-steel is used. Not only can it be used on natural materials such as granite or stone, but can also be safely used with plastics, fiberglass, or rubber.

An example would be between a drain and sink. Login or Sign Up. Logging in Remember me. Log in. Forgot password or user name? What's your favorite sealer for lav pop-ups with Corian, granite or Silestone? Posts Latest Activity Photos.

The cleanup of excess caulk is the draw back. I had a problem with the last SS sink drain I put in using putty, I went back to install a disposal and I noticed the drains had been leaking. When I removed the baskets the putty I put in six months earlier was gone.

The drain was loose and the gasket on the bottom couldn't work. I never used putty again. The problem, I think was a cheap box store basket that was wavy. The silicone I put in there worked. The problem may not really be with the putty so much as the cheap foriegn made parts with too much space.

The silicone solves the problem so I use it. I used putty for 10 years without issue then all of a sudden several failures. I don't know the reason, but silicone solved the problem. Joined: Nov 12, Location: Ohio. I only use silicone when the product says not to use putty.

Most putty problems are from using to much. Last edited: Jan 10, Cass , Jan 8, I haven't run into any as wavy as you are describing but if I did I wouldn't use them with silicone or other wise.

Cass , Jan 10, Anything that bad is going to fail regardless or how you install it. I have never seen a properly installed good quality sink drain that was done with plumbers putty leak. Some well meaning plumbers and do it your selfers have told a lot of people that it is best to use silcone instead of plumbers putty.

That is horrible advice and here is why. Silicone does what the plumbers want it to do. It holds the strainer baskets in place and it keeps them from leaking. But, it holds everything together a little too well. If the baskets ever need to be changed, it is not going to be easy. And what happens when it isn't easy? Brute force comes into play, along with frustration. For a solid surface sink, that is the last thing you need.
