Should i buy a tundra
I am looking to get into the truck market and really like the tundras. I have also looked at the F and that seems to be the closest competition for me. It's hard to gauge a truck by a 30 min test drive and reading so hoping to get some input here. Why did y'all go with the tundra? What issues have come up with the truck?
What don't you like about it? In addition, has anyone driven F and tundras who may have both perspectives? Thank so much!! Tspiels , Boerseun , Cooterbrown and 4 others like this. I had a Ford F and I've had a Tundra for over a year now. The Tundra has better build quality, less shit to go wrong, better resale, and looks better. The Ford specs look good on paper, but lots of shit goes wrong on a lot of those trucks.
Read these forums for a bit, then read the F forums for a bit and you'll see what I mean. Tundra , Nov 23, Watt maker and jewsNbrews like this. I have a Tacoma with , miles on it. Last edited: Nov 23, Watt maker , Black Wolf and jewsNbrews like this. Never looked into other trucks since all ive own are tacoma, fj and 4runner. Its reliable, looks good, crewmax to haul my kids and dog. Gas mileage sucks but ill sacrfice a few mpg for reliability over the other brands. Danbizzle and jewsNbrews like this.
Reliability Capability fits my needs moderate towing and huge cab space Reliability Looks Resale Reliability. Very rarely will a toyota leave you stranded. None of mine have. Garvin74 , Nov 23, Casper , Nov 23, Watt maker and easleycrawler like this. You looking at a new or used Tundra??? What's your budget??? Decided earlier this year I wanted a bigger, nicer truck, that I was going down to just one car instead of two like when I owned those cheap smaller trucks. Double cab Tundra had the same front hinged rear doors no stupid suicide rear doors , good rear seat room, the 6.
Drove the Tundra, loved it, loved the extra power, the extra space, the extra size, just everything about it was more comfortable IMO, seats, ride, less noise in the cabin, it just felt more substantial than the Tacoma.
Parking spots in my town are pretty big, also I've driven a couple full size Cadillacs as daily drivers so I was used to the huge size. Aron , Nov 23, Front end lift. Bought my Crew Cab Tundra so my 6'1" tall son could ride in the back seat in comfort. I have owned all makes of trucks, have like each one for different reasons. But I love everything about my truck I'll never sell the one i have or buy anything else.
A few months ago someone ran into the side damaging the tailgate, bedside and cab. At the time, the Toyota Tundra was the only full-size pickup truck that even made it onto the Consumer Reports lists of the most reliable new vehicles, and it was the only truck of its type that got a reliability rating of above average. Another trusted resource, Edmunds, also rates more recent Tundra models extremely highly.
The used Toyota Tundra gets a consumer review rating of 4. If you want to get a used truck or other used vehicles for the lowest possible prices , government and police auctions are the way to go. If you want a truck to work hard and do serious miles then something with fewer miles would be the way to go.
Former retail auto industry professional for almost a decade and an automotive writer and journalist for the last 8 years. When did the Toyota Tundra go into production? How many generations of the Toyota Tundra are there? First-generation Toyota Tundra The first generation of the Toyota Tundra went into production in May and it was available in 2-door Regular cab, 4-door Access cab and 4-door Double cab variants.
Second-generation Toyota Tundra present In a new second-generation Toyota Tundra was introduced that took the truck to another level. How much can a Toyota Tundra tow? How much can a Toyota Tundra haul? What is the best year for a used Toyota Tundra? What is considered high mileage for a Toyota Tundra?
These issues happened within the first years before the warranty expires. That may be a result of flukes and not issues that affect most models. If you get past k miles, a Tundra with k miles may not be much different. Judging paint on an older vehicle seems foolish. Paint never lasts. It is better with some manufacturers than others. But you should expect paint issues on vehicles that are 5 years old or more in general. Even more so if you are looking for a vehicle in arid or desert climates.
Exhaust system issues include rusted-out pipes. This may be more environmental than design. Toyota Tundra exhausts are steel not stainless.
They are then hot-dip coated on both sides with an aluminum-silicon alloy. The steel rolled out of the factory with a coating to protect the exhaust from the elements. This coating will wear when exposed to road debris, scraping, etc. Rust will happen with all exhausts of this type.
The Toyota 4. It was in production from Engines running solid with 1,, miles are not unheard of. In fact, this engine is sought after due to its reliability. Its aluminum block put out over ft-lbs of torque.
With an available supercharger offered by TRD, you can get horsepower out of it. That is pretty impressive on a truck that may be a few decades old. Toyota began to phase out its 4.
Voice command, Bluetooth, an auxiliary input, a USB port, and a volt outlet are more technological features that can be found in the Tacoma. One pretty exciting feature for off-roading enthusiasts is that the Tacoma does come with an integrated GoPro mount on the windshield. For , the Tundra received more interior updates than its smaller counterpart. A new 4. Even though the Tundra might not be as luxurious as other trucks, the edition will feature upgraded leather seats in a lovely brown colour.
Along with heated front seats, the Tundra also offers cooled front seats as well. Similar infotainment options available in the Tacoma can also be found in the Tundra.
A lot of people drive trucks for work, so they think more about practicality and not comfortable when they are shopping. The front legroom is about a half-inch smaller than what you get in the Tacoma, but the head and shoulder room are both a few inches bigger. Overall, you are going to enjoy a roomier ride with more people in the Toyota Tundra. You are going to spend a lot of time here, so make sure you are happy and comfortable.
The Tacoma offers some new interior feature upgrades, scoring its high points, but it is smaller than the Tundra inside. So if legroom and ample seating are on your list of must-haves for a truck, go for the bigger vehicle when deciding should I buy a Tacoma or Tundra.
Two different-sized cabs are available with each truck. Both offer plenty of space for adults in every seating position — but the Crewmax goes the extra mile. The Double Cab offers The Both cabs offer To make it easier to fit into smaller garages, the Toyota Tacoma had to trim somewhere. The rear seats of the Tacoma Access Cab are suitable mainly for storage or small children, providing As far as creature comforts, both trucks have the same availability of infotainment systems, upscale trim, and conveniences.
While the Tacoma and Tundra are perfectly adequate pickup trucks capable of hauling and towing massive amounts, how do they compare to each other? The basic engine option for the Tacoma is the 2. If you think those numbers are underwhelming, there is a slightly more powerful 3.
Constructed from high-strength steel, the Tacoma is a tough truck. Tackling rough terrain is a breeze with Crawl Control, Hill Start Assist Control, and a Multi-Terrain Select system, which allows the driver to select one of five modes to regulate traction control and engine throttle based on driving conditions. With the TRD Pro model, a skid plate helps protect the truck against sharp rocks and other obstacles that can be found on the trail.
Also included with the Pro version is a special cat-back exhaust that not only gives the Tacoma a killer look and sound but also enhances the efficiency as well. Not everyone in the Harrisburg and Philadelphia region has plenty of parking at home. While large garages and driveways are aplenty, newer construction leans towards smaller garages, and not everyone has off-street parking. Sometimes you have to fit your truck to space you have on hand. The Toyota Tundra is a thoroughly capable truck.
Three different bed sizes are available, depending on the cab size chosen — a 5. With a 5-foot Standard Bed and a 6-foot Long Bed, the Toyota Tacoma can haul a fair amount, maybe not quite as much as the Tundra but pretty darn close. It comes in a much more manageable package, though, topping out at 75 inches in width and 72 inches in height.
Even with the 6-foot bed, the Tacoma comes in at Go with the Standard Bed, and it comes in at If you have size limitations for parking and driving, the Tacoma is your better option. As a full-size pickup, the Toyota Tundra features a bit more pulling power.
With the standard 4. Only available with a Standard Bed, it can tow up to 6, pounds — perfect for towing small camper trailers and plenty of gear to the sites past East Petersburg and Reading. Towing potential gets a massive boost, as with this engine, the Tundra can tow up to 10, pounds, depending on if you want two- or four-wheel drive, and how big of a box you want on the back.
The base engine is an efficient 2. With horsepower and lb-ft of torque, the available 3. Are you a green thumb who likes to use your truck to haul loads of mulch or wood for your hobby projects?
